PARENting GROUPS

It can be very helpful to hear stories from other parents and work together to understand what your child or children need. Learning new tools and ways of looking at things can be helpful.

I offer two types of time-limited parenting groups. I can do these at my site or yours. The number of parents can be three to eight.

Basic parenting skills using Jean Illsley Clarke’s book, Self Esteem: A Family Affair.

It explains four types of parenting—marshmallowing, nurturing, structuring, and critical. It goes through developmental stages of children, the affirmations they need at each stage to develop in healthy and happy ways, and how the types of parenting impact a child’s development.

groups for parents of children who have inductive reasoning issues (IRI).

The children are generally diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, autism, Asperger’s, or social communication disorder. Those with anxiety, social phobia, ADHD, bipolar, obsessive compulsive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, reactive attachment disorder, bipolar, PDD-NOS, or a narcissism diagnosis can also have IRI. I teach about brain function with different diagnoses and talk about tips and tools. We spend time on supporting one another as parents. Participants choose some of the topics covered. Parents who have IRI need to meet with me before I can admit them to the group.
